Dolomite Droplet Microfluidics

A Micro Droplet System is set-up to demonstrate the generation of 30 -150 micron diameter monodisperse water droplets in an oil carrier stream on a microfluidic droplet junction chip. Some accessories are also described for heating the fluids and also for generating smaller droplets.

Agarose Particle Production

This video is a short summary of the application note describing the generation of agarose droplets at elevated temperature and subsequent cooling to form solid microparticles. The highest droplet generation rate is 2800 droplets per second with a droplet diameter of ~ 60 µm. The system is based around a standard hydrophobic droplet junction chip.

Cells in Double Emulsion Droplets

Using microfluidics, one or many cells can be isolated, in a highly reproducible way, in monodisperse water droplets in oil (i.e. in water-in-oil micro-emulsions). The aqueous droplets may contain buffer solutions, reagents and in some cases, magnetic beads. The oil prevents diffusion between the droplets, which can function as discrete ‘micro-reactors’. In some applications, the aqueous droplets may be within an oil shell, i.e. in water-in-oil-in water double emulsions. This video briefly explains the two stage process of double emulsion production based on the application note which investigates a two-chip system for making 30 µm double emulsion droplets, containing individual cells.

Generation of Micro Droplets
